Set it up
Two attackers face two defenders. Start the ball from alternating sides to vary the first defender.
How to play
The nearest defender slows the ball. The partner covers behind at an angle and adjusts when the ball moves. Restart with new roles after a shot or turnover.
Make it easier
Begin with attackers walking and pause to show the covering angle.
Add a challenge
Let attackers switch the ball quickly between sides.
What to watch for
Both defenders chase the same player. Ask who protects the space behind the first challenge.
Take it into a game
Finish with a short small-sided game and look for the same defending decision without the activity’s extra conditions. Ask a player to describe one moment when it helped. Keep the next round simple if the skill disappears under pressure.
KEEP IT SIMPLEProtect the space, then choose your moment.
