Set it up
An attacker starts with the ball and a defender begins several yards away. The attacker aims to cross the far line.
How to play
The defender approaches under control, slows down before contact range, and guides the attacker toward less dangerous space. Switch after each short attempt.
Make it easier
Give the attacker a walking start.
Add a challenge
Let the attacker choose between two scoring gates.
What to watch for
The defender charges straight in and is passed. Coach the change from quick approach to small balanced steps.
Take it into a game
Finish with a short small-sided game and look for the same defending decision without the activity’s extra conditions. Ask a player to describe one moment when it helped. Keep the next round simple if the skill disappears under pressure.
KEEP IT SIMPLEProtect the space, then choose your moment.
