Set it up
Two passers stand at opposite ends while a defender starts slightly to one side of the passing lane.
How to play
Passers move along their end lines to find a route. The defender reads the passer and tries to intercept without running into the receiver. Rotate after a minute.
Make it easier
Slow the passes and shorten the defender’s travel distance.
Add a challenge
Add a second target so the defender must read a choice.
What to watch for
The defender stares only at the ball. Ask them to notice the passer’s body and the receiver’s movement.
Take it into a game
Finish with a short small-sided game and look for the same defending decision without the activity’s extra conditions. Ask a player to describe one moment when it helped. Keep the next round simple if the skill disappears under pressure.
KEEP IT SIMPLEProtect the space, then choose your moment.
