Set it up
A partner rolls gently from a short distance toward the keeper. Check the area for holes and keep other balls clear.
How to play
The keeper gets balanced before the roll, moves behind the ball, and gathers it with hands low. Return with a controlled roll. No diving is required.
Make it easier
Roll directly toward the keeper at walking speed.
Add a challenge
Roll slightly to either side so the keeper moves their feet before gathering.
What to watch for
The keeper reaches while off balance. Reduce the speed and emphasize getting the body behind the ball.
Take it into a game
Finish with a short small-sided game and look for the same goalkeeping decision without the activity’s extra conditions. Ask a player to describe one moment when it helped. Keep the next round simple if the skill disappears under pressure.
KEEP IT SIMPLEGet balanced, look, then choose.
