How long is a youth soccer match?

Match duration, intervals, and permitted youth modifications depend on the competition. The referee accounts for lost time under the applicable Laws and regulations. A schedule showing a kickoff slot is not necessarily the playing duration.

Teach it with a simple activity

Create a match-day note with period length, interval, warmup arrival, and expected pickup. Confirm what happens when weather or field scheduling interrupts play.

A situation to discuss

A game starts late. Do not shorten it by a private agreement without following the competition’s procedure and the referee’s authority.

Avoid this misunderstanding

Ask about tournament and league differences before planning rotations around an assumed match length.

Confirm your local version

Ask your league which rulebook applies this season and where its modifications are published. Keep that document with your match notes. When a match decision is disputed, follow the competition’s process and use qualified referee education for a detailed interpretation.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

Know the general rule. Confirm the version your team plays.
