How to take a legal throw-in

For a throw-in, face the field, use both hands, and deliver the ball from behind and over the head. Part of each foot must be on the touchline or the ground outside it. Take it from where the ball left.

Teach it with a simple activity

Practice without pressure using short distances. A partner watches the starting location, both feet, and the movement of the ball, then the players switch roles.

A situation to discuss

A player lifts a foot completely off the ground while releasing the throw. Rehearse a balanced stance before adding distance.

Avoid this misunderstanding

A long throw is not automatically a better throw. A controlled delivery to an available teammate is often more useful.

Confirm your local version

Ask your league which rulebook applies this season and where its modifications are published. Keep that document with your match notes. When a match decision is disputed, follow the competition’s process and use qualified referee education for a detailed interpretation.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

Know the general rule. Confirm the version your team plays.
