Set it up
A receiver starts near a marker, facing a server with a ball. Leave space behind and beside the receiver.
How to play
Move away from the server a few steps, then change direction to show an open passing angle. Receive and return the pass. Swap roles frequently.
Make it easier
Walk through the timing with a stationary server.
Add a challenge
Add a shadow defender who follows one of the receiver’s movements.
What to watch for
The receiver keeps running toward the server and closes the gap. Show at an angle with enough room to control.
Take it into a game
Finish with a short small-sided game and look for the same receiving decision without the activity’s extra conditions. Ask a player to describe one moment when it helped. Keep the next round simple if the skill disappears under pressure.
KEEP IT SIMPLELook for space. Keep the ball within reach.
