Practice when only a few players arrive

A small attendance day can be useful because each player gets more attention and more touches.

Start here

Choose pair activities, 1v1 decisions, or 2v2 games. Keep the same learning theme you planned, but remove tasks that depend on a full formation.

Make it work for your team

With an odd number, use a rotating neutral or a coach as a passive server. Make sure no child spends most of the session waiting.

A common trap

Avoid treating the session as punishment for teammates who are absent. Give those present a complete and enjoyable practice.

Try this example

Five players arrive. Use two pairs plus a rotating support player, then play 2v2 with a neutral.

Before your next session

  • Choose one action from this guide and write it into your plan.
  • Tell your assistant what you are trying so players hear a consistent message.
  • Afterward, note what helped and what needs a different approach.
KEEP IT SIMPLE

Keep the next action clear, achievable, and connected to the players.
